I took a quick jaunt over to Austin this weekend to visit Leila and Brian, two friends from Georgia Tech. The drive from Houston to Austin takes me 3-3.5 hours according to the clock, depending on traffic, but it never seems to take that long. I really enjoy the drive, especially when I reach the halfway point and get off the interstate and starting heading up Highway 71.

Somewhere in those ~90 miles of road, there's a little sign that says "Scenic Overlook" and points the way up a short windy road to the top of a hill. I've passed it many times going back and forth between Austin, but never stopped to check out the scenery until today. I think part of the reason I love the drive is because it seems like the sky always looks like it does here: big, puffy, cotton-ball clouds as far as the eye can see.

If you have ever wondered what central Texas looks like, well, this is it.

(I should also add that there is absolutely no post-processing on this one. Not even levels! The sky really does look that blue, and the clouds that puffy.)

In case you're interested, the shorter drive is by taking Hwy 290. The downside is it's definitely not as pretty. but I drive to and from Austin/Houston ALL the time (I live in Houston but am a student at UT) and I get there in 2 hrs 15 minutes! no speeding, honest!
