Orchid

I love orchids, but I've always been scared to get one because, well, I just do not have a green thumb. But Jose bought me this orchid for my birthday at the end of March and I'm determined to keep it alive and thriving. After two months, it's starting to drop its flowers so I wanted to capture it before they all fall off. With any luck, I will coax it into blooming again.

From above, Texas is a patchwork of farms and fields. Sometimes I think it looks much prettier from above than it ever does on the ground...

My apartment complex is covered in hibiscus at the moment, but this one was actually taken in Galveston. Proof that spring has sprung all over the area.

This mama has 22 ducklings. That is a lot of ducklings, but they are so cute. They like to come up to the huge blackberry bush/tree behind Jose's apartment and nibble at the berries. I threw them bread from the balcony.

Seagulls chill out on Surfside Beach as the sun rises before the Surfside Half Marathon last Saturday.

Ball On The Horizon

As I drove into Surfside Beach for a half marathon, I climbed a bridge over the Intercoastal waterway. At the top, I noticed the sun right on the horizon. I drove straight ahead to the beach to take a quick photo before it rose any higher.

Exposed

Galveston Island, as seen from the air, is just a tiny strip of land along the Gulf Coast. You can see I-45 running south and crossing the water to the island. While on this flight, I had just finished reading Isaac's Storm, an excellent book about the 1900 hurricane that flooded the city and killed 6,000 people and couldn't help but wonder what would happen if another large hurricane headed our way...

Seen from about 18,000 feet as I flew from Houston to Corpus Christi.
