Nature: May 2005 Archives
I think I mentioned how windy it was around Corpus Christi the day I was there in April to shoot a triathlon. Afterwards my friends and I went to the beach, where the sand was blown deep against these wooden posts.
When there's a bright blue sky, I can't resist using it as a background ad nauseum. This was taken on my weekend trip to Texas Hill Country a couple weeks ago.
It's been a crazy couple weeks for me and I feel like the photos I've been posting here have been haphazard and random and not always my best. I hope to get more consistent soon.
This is a companion to yesterday's shot -- looking down the sliding board of the platform in my childhood backyard. I'm not sure if this is a real or imagined memory, but I think the sheet of metal that serves as the slide came to us from Santa Claus one Christmas. ;)
The Gulf Coast northeast of Galveston, Texas shot on my early morning flight to Atlanta last Friday. Sadly, I think the beach looks better from the air...
A final shot from Pedernales Falls State Park. The water coming over the falls bubbles and flows in all sorts of directions, creating these odd-looking channels and depressions in the rock.
Debbie, Paul and Sonia explore the banks of Flat Creek.
The beautiful Pedernales Falls in the middle of Texas, a stitch of about 10 photos. The larger version has a lot more detail, though it does require scrolling. The stitching ain't the greatest -- you can see the seams if you look closely -- but I think the landscape makes up for it!
This little creek flowed through the middle of Flat Creek Crossing Ranch in Texas Hill Country. It was really a beautiful day last Saturday when we wandered the trails on the ranch...
These two kids were jumping all over the rocks at Pedernales Falls, so quickly and with such abandon that I was afraid they might fall in! Ah, to be young and fearless...
There is an interesting article in the New York Times today about digital photography: "Stop Them Before They Shoot Again." I wrote some quick thoughts over at my blog.
I spent Saturday and Sunday at Flat Creek Crossing Ranch, next door to Pedernales Falls State Park, courtesy of a door prize win by Michelle. She couldn't use her free night at the ranch due to travel plans, so I was lucky to get her spot and joined four other friends for two days of hiking, biking, and swimming in the river.
The ranch is normally used as a retreat and is not often available for people to simply rent a cabin for the night. This weekend was oddly free though, and we found ourselves with access to the main lodge and the entire ranch all to ourselves!
On Saturday afternoon we hiked a mile and a half down from our lodge to the Pedernales River and swam in a small canyon. The water was chilly at first, but not too bad.
This is a stitch of two separate photos. A larger version is also available.
