Prelude to a Marathon

| | Comments (2)

This picture is bad, I know. But there's a good story...

That's me in the foreground, nearing the finish of the Reindeer Run 5K race in December 2002. The photo was taken with my camera by my friend Gavin's mother. I don't think she had ever actually used a digital camera before that day, which explains the interesting angle and out-of-focus shot.

Two years ago, 5Ks were all I ever ran. You see, I'm not really built to be a runner. I'm a stocky tomboy, not a lithe speed demon. If you had told me when this picture was taken that I'd be running all 26.2 miles of the Houston Marathon on January 16, 2005, I would have laughed.

But I am. Today I'm running my first marathon!

Wish me luck. :)

Carolina's defense...did not have a great day last Thursday at the Tire Bowl. UNC lost 37-14.

Tire Heads

I couldn't make it to my alma mater's bowl game this year, so I did the next best thing -- went to the Continental Tire Bowl here in Charlotte with my mom and dad. My mother went and my brother currently goes to UNC, so we were hoping for a Tar Heel win. Alas, it wasn't meant to be, and they lost to Boston College by a score of 37-24.

I saw these guys outside the stadium before the game and thought their tire helmets (for the Tire Bowl -- get it? -- haha!) were hilarious. I have no idea who they are, but they were more than happy to let me take their picture.

Happy New Year!
