Swimmers Take Your Mark

Normally I would leave this photo the way it originally was -- full of brightly colored swim caps. But it's been a long, strange week and this mutated version matches my mood much better. Just one of those weeks.

Yesterday, Jen put a rather funny photo of me on her photoblog.

Jason Giambi takes a mighty swing at the ball at the Yankees-Mariners game in Seattle on August 31. Strike.

I shot this with Irwin's 75-300 lens. It's amazing how much better baseball photos look when shot in afternoon sunlight rather than the dim beneath-the-roof lighting of Minute Maid Park.

It must be a bit lonely being a right fielder. Look at all that empty field!

Gary Sheffield walks out to take his position during the Mariners-Yankees game on September 1 in Seattle.

Surf's Up

This surfer was watching the waves at Ocean Beach on the west side of San Francisco when we stopped to admire the view. It was a very foggy, gray, and chilly day in August, but soon after I shot this, he took the plunge into the cold water to catch some waves.

In other news, I'm in and around Seattle for the next few days, seeing some sights, taking in a baseball game, and hitting the trails around Mt. Rainier and Olympic National Park. The photoblog's on auto-pilot, and I'll be back next Wednesday.
